Research

To Find More Effective and Safe Treatments

New Tools To Study And Treat Psychiatric Illnesses:

Psychopharmacology, the study of medicines for emotional disorders, has advanced at a very rapid pace over the last twenty years. Clinical trials of medicines have permitted doctors and patients to better understand how a new treatment may affect large numbers of people.

Clinical Research

Scientific research is the best tool we have to develop better treatments.

Planning or running a medication trial provides a chance to learn about new medications. We are able to offer medications to patients under controlled conditions. Often trial medications are not readily available outside the study.

We understand that participating in research means a commitment on the part of the patient/research subject. Visits must be done in a certain time frame. Sometimes families must travel to get to a study site. Sometimes there are placebo conditions in a study. Blood work is often required.

Dr. Chandler has done clinical research on anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Triangle Neuropsychiatry is also interested in psychopharmocology research for autism, dementias, traumatic brain injury and other problems effecting the nervous system.

Neuropsychiatric Research

Treatments for psychiatric disorders have improved a great deal over the last twenty years. For the most part, medicines are safer and more effective. Improvements are only possible because patients volunteer for research.
